Hair Color Conundrum

My hair was thermal-straightened more than a year ago, that must have triggered a vanity gene or something, because as if that whole-day and ridiculously expensive process wasn't enough, I have been spending tons of money further dying/highlighting it since then. Last week I colored it again, with highlights, and said goodbye to another $100.

I almost want to go back to my natural color, a solid black. Of course, am always tempted by lighter colors constantly. East Asian celebrities have been lightening their hair for years, and it was hard to find pics of them with "virgin" hair. Have I been brainwashed into thinking the color I was born with isn't good enough?

Zhu Yin

Joey
The color I have now... It's a little bit less red than hers.

Cathy Tsui
Cathy Tsui again, she's pretty with any haircolor. In this photo, she's probably had some flat-ironing.

The haircolor I most recently had.

Model Blog

Rayli is the most popular fashion magazine in China, one of their reader-turned-models, Xiao Hei, has recently moved to Pittsburg to be close to her boyfriend. She has a cute blog with a lot everyday photos and she talks about how she has to cook for herself over here (semi-celebs like her probably have full-time help in China). Check out her blog.

She is such a natural in front of the camera, even though the photos are all candids taken in ordinary lighting. Ignore the cutesy gestures/expressions, which is unfortunately considered uber-adorable in East Asian fashion magazine photo spreads, something she's doing still in real-life photos (occupational hazard?).

The Power of Purple: Bad

Fan Binbin looking like a lost ghost... The Chinese press just won't give her a break, she's usually so ethereal in her beauty. Maybe she overdid the purple eyeshadow, it happens to the best of us.
The pose is just, ugh, wanna-be-trampy?

No need for commentary here, am just happy she's being so brazen. I guess there is such a thing as too much confidence.

The Power of Purple: So-so

Not a fan of the messy hairline, do love the purple and green combo.

Michelle Yeoh

Is it her expression? She's looking bored and vacant here.

The bracelets are cute.
Can't figure out why this look doesn't work for her... Could it be she's a lil too svelte for this dress?

Blue contacts? Noooooooo...

Male Hong Kong stars are always so metro with their outfits.

The Power of Purple: Good

One of my favorite Chinese celebrity gossip boards has this thread going where celebs wearing purple are being compared. The concensus is purple brings out the inner essence of the person and the tackier the person, the worse she'll look. I've gathered the pics and grouped them by my subjective impressions.

Hair How-to: Twist

Hair How-to: Barrette

Hair How-to: Chignon

I have tried to do this, and found it helps to have somewhat dirty hair for this do. Clean hair is too slippery and doesn't hold well.
